Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is Head of the Commonwealth and Kamalesh Sharma, current Secretary-General of the Commonwealth is the principal global advocate for the Commonwealth and Chief Executive of the Secretariat.

Commonwealth policy is set by the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Govt. Meeting with a very wide ranging brief; Communications and Public Affairs, Finance, Economic Affairs, Governance and Institutional Development, Human Rights, Legal & Constitutional Affairs, Political Affairs. There are 12 divisions and staff drawn from most of the 54 member countries.
